Summary:
Forty-one percent of the transgender community report having attempted suicide. They continue to be marginalized within the legal system, the mental health system, their church homes, society at large, and within their own families. The mental health system should be aware of latest changes to the WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) standards of care for the mental health treatment of transgender persons. Ethical issues and clinical/supervisory responsibilities of mental health service providers for counseling transgender persons and their families are addressed in this workshop.
